Ocean Mind provides you with pure DHA – the omega-3 fatty acid that is particularly important for the brain, eyes and nervous system and during pregnancy. EPA is another omega-3 fatty acid that is mainly found in fish. Originally, algae oils from Schizochytrium sp. were developed specifically for infant formula to mimic the fatty acid profile of breast milk. This contains about five times as much DHA as EPA.
This is why most Schizochytrium species today contain very high amounts of DHA and only very small amounts of EPA (approx. 1%). The extraction of plant-based EPA is therefore still in the early stages of development. This fatty acid has not yet been produced in organic quality due to the stricter purity requirements.
